Mekong Cycling: Day 3 Ban Phaeng - Bung Khla
Another early start, we left our homestay, but first wanted to check something else...
Ban Phaeng seemed larger than the other places we had passed along the road so far.
Early morning monk trail through the main street
Therefore, we first went to the bus terminal to see if there was any information regarding buses back to Nakhon Phanom from Bueng Khan. And indeed, there was a friendly staff member who even showed us a timetable, perfect! One issue remained though, my folding B-Twin was no problem for the average bus, however Tim's bike might be problematic. Oh well, we would tackle that once we got there.
Nongkhai was 'only' 180 km away, no thanks!
Green Buddhas at Wat Pho Sai
It was a relatively smooth 59 km ride to Bung Khla where we checked into Baan Baan Rim Doi Resort Hotel.
Here too we encountered a grumpy lady who reluctantly showed us our room.., at least she didn't tell us to piss off!
The remainder of the day we cruised through and around the town, nice place.
Plenty of Naga decorations around.
This not-yet-opened fancy bridge was part of the boulevard beautification project we assumed.
For a small place like Bung Khla they certainly made a lot of effort to attract the tourist crowd...
Nice, although not really a classic Mekong riverside scene!
This Buddha on a wooden house was much more to our taste.
We sorely missed our friend Ray's wit and banter, who had joined every trip until now.
This made ordering beer more difficult, as we still automatically raised three fingers every time.
Consequently, we ended every evening well-lubricated courtesy of Ray!
To Be Continued!
This post suggests just how relaxed you blokes are on this tour, and what a wonderful place it is to see by bike. Great stuff, KK.
Very nice pictures! Beautiful area of Thailand.
