Mekong Cycling: Day 2 Chaiburi - Ban Phaeng
A little before sunrise we got up and prepared ourselves for the upcoming ride.
And just as we were about to depart our landlady offered us coffee!
However, our standard riding method was (and still is) to get moving first and then stop at whatever coffee shop might be available alongside the road.
Thus we declined her friendly offer and got on the road again, passing fields with buffaloes and an occasional glimpse of the Mekong.
Of course, no trip here would be complete without encountering a dead-end!
Wat Phuttha Nimit was worth a stop. Its style resembles that of Chiang Rai's famous White & Blue temples but without the crowds.
The interior murals were spectacular as well.
Another quick stop to admire the views and give our bums a break ;-)
Accidentally we stumbled upon this top-secret Thai navy base where I managed to snap this photo before sneaking out again. I thought it could be a (mini) submarine station but that was immediately discarded by Tim. This didn't come as a surprise because in principle we automatically disagree with each other on anything (except for beer) which usually results in conversations that tend to go everywhere!
View from a riverside restaurant on new embankment strengthening activities...
Our arrival at the hotel I had picked at random, the Hat Sai Thong Resort in Ban Phaeng was odd, to say the least as a friendly lady politely told us that it would be very inconvenient to stay at her place as it was so far away from town, in other words, please sod off! Therefore we cycled back into town and after another few hotel mishaps we finally got a decent room at บ้านพักจักรพงษ์ (หาดดอนแพง)โฮมสเตย์.
Later we went out to explore more of Ban Phaeng as it was quite a town, looking for beer, food, and more beer.
Total distance cycled that day was 66 km, not bad at all.
To Be Continued!
It looks like a fabulous Day 2, KK, and that temple was a wonderful bonus.
